PPIE works with our school sites and with PUSD and parent club leadership to determine the best use of funds. We work to ensure that family donations go back to their schools in a tangible way, so families can see how their giving enables their children. By coupling family donations with corporate giving and matching, as well as our fundraising events, we’re able to leverage all donations for maximum benefit. - Supplemental staffing – We work closely with all 15 school sites (including parent clubs and principals) and PUSD leadership each year to determine how PPIE funds should be allocated. We follow an annual cycle defined by our PPIE-Parent Club Guidelines (established 2017), which includes:
- Revenue generation (during School Registration in August, our Fall Gala and Run for Education events, corporate/foundation support and added family support throughout the year)
- School review with school leadership and our annual school site survey (November)
- Evaluation of priorities with school principals, school parent club leaders and PUSD leadership (January-April)
- Allocation (early May) in time for staff to help our students with the start of each new school year in August. Review our Parent Club-PPIE Guidelines to see how the process works.
Our reviews have indicated that schools are looking for help with supplemental staffing. So that’s what we fund! Specifically, family giving goes to our Giving Fund to help pay for additional staffing hours for:
- school librarians to keep libraries open longer
- tech specialists to keep computers running for teachers and students
- intervention specialists to help students who need additional or advanced help with math, English and technology, as well as to help teachers deliver targeted learning for these students. Each school site will determine the best use of these specialists.

- Teacher Grants – Thanks to our great corporate and community sponsors – Oracle Corporation, Clorox, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Rotary Club of Pleasanton – PPIE issues annual Innovative Education Grants up to $3,000 to Pleasanton teachers. These grants support innovative science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) projects designed to inspire and educate our great students. Visit here to apply and see past winners. This grant cycle runs from January to April and our evaluation committee makes a final determination in May for use in the upcoming school year. - Student Grants – Each year, PPIE awards grants up to $500 for student led projects in STEAM categories. We typically, open allocations in September and, after review by a special committee, issue awards by December. Visit here to apply and see past winners.
- Competition Grants – Each year, PPIE issues a small number of grants to support high school programs and student initiatives. These include: We the People competitive U.S. constitutional debate, DECA and other programs. Find more information here.
